Dear Phyllis,
Thanks for reporting knotweed. It sounds like the population you reported should be prioritized for control given its proximity to the river and the community gardens. However, knotweed spreads downstream so in most cases it controlled at the watershed scale starting upstream and working downstream, so this population may not be controlled in the near future. I will forward the report to the appropriate person and find out if there is a plan for control. Feel free to contact me with questions.
Please keep on reporting. Early detection of invasive species depends you folks like yourself watching out and reporting suspicious invaders! Thanks for your help!
